Inside Davidson County, the free option is run by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, not the trash company. It’s a genuinely useful program with firm limits, and those limits decide whether you need a hauler.
You phone to get on the schedule, put everything at the front curb by 6:30 a.m. on your assigned day, and the crew has up to seven business days afterward to collect it. Furniture, appliances, mattresses, gym equipment, fencing and construction debris all qualify.
Drywall, bagged items, tires, motor oil, propane, hazardous materials, boats and vehicles are all turned away. So is anything set out on a private road or inside a gated community.
Four Metro drop-off sites — Anderson Lane, East, Ezell Pike and Omohundro — are open Tuesday through Saturday for Davidson residents with ID. A few bags and one bulky item per visit are free; larger loads and mattresses carry fees, and you do all the lifting and driving.
Franklin, Brentwood, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet and the other ring towns sit outside the Sheriff’s program entirely. Each city handles bulky trash its own way, so check with yours before planning around it.
If the pile can wait a week at the front curb and nothing on it is bagged or drywall, the Sheriff’s pickup is a fair deal. When it’s upstairs, behind a gate, needed gone before a closing, or simply too heavy to drag out, a flat photo quote is the faster route.
