Why the pile exists
Movers price by weight and by time, and they will not take things that are not worth moving. So the end of a Nashville move looks the same in every neighborhood: a sagging sofa, a mattress somebody decided not to bring, a particleboard bookcase that will not survive another disassembly, a grill, and eleven contractor bags.
Then the closing date or the lease end arrives and the pile is still there. That is the job.

Where people are moving to
A large share of Nashville move-outs are not leaving the region, they are moving outward. Franklin, Nolensville, Spring Hill and Thompson's Station in Williamson County; Murfreesboro, Smyrna and La Vergne in Rutherford; Mt. Juliet, Hendersonville and Gallatin to the east and north.
That direction of travel changes what gets thrown away. People moving from a 1,400 square foot bungalow in East Nashville into a newer house in Nolensville replace furniture rather than move it, because the new rooms are a different shape. People moving the other way, into a condo in the Gulch or a tall-skinny in The Nations, throw out because there is no longer anywhere to put it.
Either way the pile is furniture, not junk, which is why item pricing often beats a truck bracket on these jobs.

$126 + $143 + $72 + $83 + $71 + $132 = $627. Against the ladder, three-quarters of a truck is $587, which is lower, so the truck bracket is the booking.
Renters: what the deposit is actually at risk for
Leaving furniture behind is the fastest way to lose a Nashville security deposit, because the landlord does not charge you what removal costs, they charge you what removal costs them plus the turnaround days they lost.
The two things that most often stay behind here are a mattress, because nobody will take it, and a sofa, because it went up the stairs of a Midtown walk-up four years ago and the current tenant does not fancy the reverse trip. A queen set is $143 and a sofa is $126. $143 + $126 = $269, which is less than most deposits.
Sellers: cleanouts before listing
If the house is going on the market, the cleanout is a staging expense, not a disposal expense, and it should happen before photographs rather than after the inspection.
In older Green Hills, Belmont-Hillsboro and Woodmont houses the basement is what kills a showing. In Donelson, Bellevue and Crieve Hall it is the garage. Clear the one your house has, and price it against a half truck at $431 or three-quarters at $587.
Booking around a closing or a lease end
Book the pickup for the last day you control access, not the first day you are free. Give us the address, the floor, and whether the truck can reach the door. Say if it is a Gulch or SoBro tower so the service elevator and dock get reserved, and say if it is a shared tandem driveway in The Nations so your neighbor does not come home to a blocked strip of concrete.
