Student Move-Out Junk Removal in
Nashville
Vanderbilt, Belmont, Lipscomb, TSU, Trevecca, Fisk — the leases and the dorm contracts all end within the same two weeks of May, and the room fills with a mattress, a mini-fridge, and furniture nobody's driving home. We haul it out for a flat photo-quoted price from $75, carry it down the stairs so you don't, and there's no separate sales-tax line because Tennessee doesn't tax the service. Book the window, hand off the keys, done.
The early-May crush, and why it's brutal
Nashville has more than a dozen colleges, and the big ones let out on top of each other. For 2026, Vanderbilt non-graduating students have to be out by Saturday, May 2, with graduating seniors out by May 9 around commencement on May 7–8. Belmont, Lipscomb, TSU, Trevecca, and Fisk all close in that same late-April-to-mid-May stretch. So for roughly two weeks, West End, Hillsboro Village, Midtown, and the Belmont blocks turn into a slow-motion pile-up of mattresses on porches, mini-fridges by dumpsters, and IKEA dressers that didn't survive the year — every complex turning over at once, every U-Haul in town spoken for.
That's the moment this service exists for. You've got finals, a flight home, and a lease that says the unit has to be empty and clean. Dragging a queen mattress and a broken futon down three flights, then figuring out where any of it can legally go, is the last thing you have time for. Send us a photo, get a flat number, pick a window, and a vetted crew carries the whole load out. Same-day is common if you book in the first two weeks of May — just don't wait until the 1st to call, because everyone else waits too.
How move-out pickup works
1 · Photo the room
Snap the mattress, the mini-fridge, the pile — whatever's leaving. You get an exact flat price back in seconds, no walkthrough, no "starting at."
2 · Pick your window
Lock a time that fits around your last exam or your flight. A parent out of state can book and pay it for you; we coordinate access with the leasing office if you're already gone.
3 · We carry it out
An insured hauler clears the room — down the dorm stairwell or out of the walk-up — and donates or recycles what it can. You lift nothing and pay the photo price.
How much does student move-out cost in Nashville?
Flat, photo-quoted before anyone drives, with the carry-out and disposal already in it and no Tennessee service tax on top. One or two items price per piece; a whole dorm room or a shared apartment clears fastest as a truck-fill.
| What's leaving | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Twin mattress | $82 |
| Full mattress | $94 |
| Box spring | $92 |
| Mini-fridge | $115 |
| Futon | $111 |
| Desk | $83 |
| Dresser | $126 |
| Bookshelf | $72 |
| Microwave | $30 |
| Small TV | $68 |
$75 minimum. Stairwells and no-elevator walk-ups are included — no surcharge. Clearing a whole room or a four-bedroom apartment? A truck-fill runs quarter $241, half $431, full $732 — send one photo of the pile and we'll price the lot. Split the truck-fill across roommates and it's a few dollars each.

| JunkRabbit | From $75 flat | Same day | None — photo quote, we carry it out, roommates can split it |
Does Nashville pick up student move-out junk?
Not off the curb, and this trips up out-of-state students every year. Metro Nashville has no free curbside bulk-item pickup — set a mattress out by the apartment dumpster and it becomes the property manager's problem, which becomes a charge against your deposit. The Department of Waste Services runs weekly garbage and recycling and a quarterly brush collection for yard limbs, and you can reach 311 or 615-862-5000 with questions, but none of that covers a dorm's worth of furniture.
The only free route is to self-haul it yourself to one of four Metro convenience centers — the closest to campus is Anderson Lane at 939A Anderson Ln in Madison. The first bulk item is free, but they're open Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. only, and a mattress plus a mini-fridge plus a desk does not go in the back of a sedan. Between finals, a checkout deadline, and no truck, that math almost never works for a student — which is exactly the gap we fill.
What we haul out at move-out
- Mattresses & box springs — twin, full, or the queen you upgraded to; stained, worn, or fine, all the same.
- Mini-fridges & microwaves — the dorm-room fridge with the refrigerant recovered before disposal, plus microwaves and small appliances.
- Cheap furniture — futons, particle-board desks and dressers, bookshelves, papasan chairs, that sagging hand-me-down couch.
- End-of-year junk — bagged trash, moving boxes, a shattered mirror, string lights, the rug nobody's shipping home.
- The whole room or apartment — everything at once, priced as a truck-fill from one photo and split across roommates.
What happens to your stuff after pickup
The end of the semester wastes an absurd amount of usable furniture, so anything still good goes to donation first — Goodwill of Middle Tennessee and the Habitat for Humanity ReStore keep dressers, desks, and undamaged furniture in circulation instead of sending them to Middle Point Landfill. Mattresses get broken down for the steel and foam where a recycler takes them; mini-fridges and other refrigerant appliances have their freon recovered as required before anything is scrapped. What's left is disposed of properly, and the fee is already inside your flat price.
Dorm stairwells, walk-ups, and the leasing-office deadline
Student move-out is never a curbside grab. It's a mattress coming down four flights of a dorm with no service elevator, a heavy futon out of a third-floor Hillsboro Village walk-up, or a stacked pile in an apartment that has to be photo-documented empty before the deposit clears. We handle the part that actually costs you time: the crew carries every piece out of the room or unit, works around the building's move-out traffic, and clears the space so it passes the walk-through. If you've already flown home, we coordinate access with a roommate or the leasing office and text you when it's done — a lot of our May bookings are paid by a parent who never sets foot in Nashville.
When students and parents call us
- Checkout deadline — the dorm contract or lease ends and the room has to be empty and clean by a set date.
- Graduation weekend — the apartment cleared while the family's in town for commencement, no time to haul anything.
- Summer sublet handoff — the old tenant's leftovers gone before a summer subletter moves in.
- Roommate split — a shared four-bedroom emptied at once, the truck-fill divided evenly.
- Study-abroad or transfer — a room cleared mid-year when someone leaves and isn't coming back.
Why Nashville students choose JunkRabbit
- Flat price from a photo — the number you see is the number you pay, so a parent can approve it from anywhere.
- We carry it out — down the dorm stairs and out of the walk-up; Metro won't take it curbside anyway.
- Split it across roommates — one truck-fill for the whole apartment, divided so it's cheap per person.
- All-in pricing — disposal and donation included, no Tennessee service tax, same-day when a slot's open in early May. Español disponible.
What Nashville students say
"Lease ended May 2 and I had a 6 a.m. flight. They cleared my Hillsboro Village apartment — mattress, futon, a busted dresser — the afternoon before. Flat price, no tax nonsense, deposit came back."
"I booked it from Ohio for my daughter during finals at Vanderbilt. Sent a photo, got a flat number, they coordinated with her roommate. Easiest part of graduation weekend."
"Four of us split a truck-fill from our Midtown place — two mattresses, a couch, and a mountain of junk. Came out to almost nothing each. Same-day in the middle of the May chaos."
Move-out questions, answered
How much does it cost?
Flat, photo-quoted: twin mattress $82, full $94, box spring $92, mini-fridge $115, futon $111, desk $83, dresser $126, bookshelf $72. A whole room clears as a truck-fill — quarter $241, half $431, full $732. $75 minimum, carry-out and disposal included, no Tennessee service tax.
When exactly is move-out in 2026?
Vanderbilt non-grads out May 2, grads by May 9; Belmont, Lipscomb, TSU, Trevecca, and Fisk close in the same window. Book early — same-day slots vanish that fortnight.
Can a parent book it remotely?
Yes. Your student sends a photo, we quote a flat price, and a parent anywhere can approve and pay while we coordinate access.
Do you take mattresses and mini-fridges?
Yes — mattresses, box springs, mini-fridges (refrigerant recovered), futons, and cheap furniture. Usable pieces go to donation.
Do I have to get it to the curb?
No. We carry everything out of the room or unit. Metro Nashville has no curbside bulk pickup, so the curb isn't an option anyway.
